  • Bank holidays 1871

    In 1871, Sir John Lubbock introduced the 'Bank Holidays Act' it introduced the concept of holidays with pay.
    Many us bank holidays to go on long weekends. This means that public attractions such as museums and zoos stay open.
  • 1950's rail

    Modernisation program as diesel and electric trains are introduced to replace steam trains.
    This means people can travel faster by trains.
  • Benidorm

    In 1953, the mayor of Benidorm Pedro Zaragoza appealed to General Franco to lift the bikini ban to increase inbound tourism.
  • Comet

    Comet was the worlds first passenger carrying jet airliner. According to the BBC 'it revolutionised air travel, and was the pride of British aviation industry for its first year, until the first of three catastrophic crashes happened in March 1953. After the conclusive evidence revealed in the inquiry that metal fatigue concentrated at the corners of the aircraft's windows had caused the crashes, all aircraft were redesigned with rounded windows'
    This helped shape the way for aircraft design
  • cruise ships

    The 1960's witnessed the beginnings of the modern cruise industry.
    Cruise ships concentrated on creating a casual environment and providing extensive on-board entertainment.
    In 2014 22.1 million passengers were cruising globally.
    This is important because there is more options for inbound and outbound tourists.
  • boeing 727

    boeing 727 was created by ' boeing commercial areoplanes, this plane was created after boeing 707 when people realised jets could bring in huge amounts of income from people travelling to different parts of the world, this allowed the business of travel and tourism to evolve. following on from this the boeing 727 was introduced February 1964 and boarded flights until the late 1980's
  • the development of tourism act

    This act created tourist boards such as 'VisitBritain' and 'VisitEngland' to help promote and advertise Britain's tourism industry domestically and abroad. This act provides financial assistance to tourist boards.
