Development in sport for table tennis

    This is the international table tennis federation which was created in 1926 because the table tennis association in britain was seen as the start so they made it world wide. This developed the sport to make it a worldwide played sport.

    In the 1950s there was an introduction of rubbers on a layer of sponge on the bats which increased the speed of the game and the spin. this allowed the sport to become exciting as the speed and spin kept changing. These were introduced to Britain by sports goods manufacturer S.W. Hancock Ltd. Also the introduction of speed glue which made the game even. faster and more exciting than it use to be.

    in 1988 table tennis was introduced to the olympics and was the first time ever played in the olympics. This made people watch the sport and can make you interested in it so it develops the sport to make more viewers.
  • Rules changed after 2000 olympics

    They changed the size of the ball to 40mm so that it can be visible on tv when watched. This made the sport easier to watch for spectators.
  • Point scoring system changed

    was changed from 21 points to 11 and instead of 5 serves each, it was now changed to 2 serves each to make the game intense and more exciting. This made the sport exciting as the change in scoring made it tense as didn't have the gap of 21 points.

    This was a rule set up to stop people covering the ball on the serve so that it makes the game fairer and equal. you also couldn't serve underneath the arm. this delevoped sport to see what the spin on the ball is.
  • Speed glue allowed for the last time

    this was the last time at the olympics that speed glue was allowed which made it no longer available for the 2012 olympics. This development chagned the speed of the shot so players couldn't have the advantage over others. This is the steroids for bats.

    Its announcement comes at a welcome time for the sport in Britain after the ETTA suffered a complete funding cut from UK Sport in 2012 following disappointing results in recent years culminating in the 2012 Olympic Games, where athletes competed by virtue only of host nation places. This development for table tennis as a lot of things sch as region teams had to be disbanded because of money costs which made it harder to develop talents.
  • Change for table tennis name for england table tennis

    ETTA(english table tennis association) was rebranded as Table tennis England which was inline with sports england. This development brought in more money for the sport and the new brnad made it look professional.
  • sponsorship deal from butterfly for four years

    July 30 - The English Table Tennis Association (ETTA) has announced a new four-year deal with equipment manufactures Butterfly to provide clothing to England teams at senior, junior and cadet level. This development allowed money to come in for top players to improve which is good in developing young talents to compete in international tournaments.
