  • Access to private property for hunting may increase harvest.

    Commitee members aim to find incentives for property owners so that they would allow access to deer hunters.
    Al Horvath indicates that access in the main issue that is keeping hunters from a greater harvest.
    Motion was passed to allow land owners to decide whether or not hunting would be allowed on their property.
  • Bow hunting and women hunting on the rise.

    Commitee member Kevin Wallenfang led a wrap-up of last years season: 29% new women hunters, bow hunting rising, and a 90% complaint for electronic registration.
    Dan Storm discussed new methods for deer surveys, hoping that DMAP can be sncouraged to help in research.
    Only 5 non-fatal accidents occurred in the last season.
  • 15 State parks now open to hunting with no restrictions

    Committee members met to discuss limiting the number of deer hunters allowed in several state parks. 15 parks would be affected, and they are to open to the public with no restrictions. They voted to ban the sale of deer scents, dips and licks because CWD has been found to be spreadable through liquids. They also discussed the motion to ban the feeding and baiting of deer in Monroe County.
  • Winnebago white deer hunting now legal

    At this meeting the committee passed a motion to allow the hunting of white deer in Winnebago County. They also discussed the genetic aspect of CWD in deer and mentioned that some deer do carry the disease longer before they die, and spread CWD during that time. They have concluded that no deer are immune to CWD.
  • Genetics Presentation regarding CWD

    At this meeting Laurie Seale, a deer farm owner of 30 years, gave a presentation to the committee concerning CWD. She included possible solutions including genetics and provided handouts and a folder of Knowledge About CWD. Kevin Wallenfang spoke about the 2018 deer season wrap up and provided population project and deer mortality rates.
