Deer & Elk Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes Update for educational purposes only

    Members debated whether or not the deer population information is being equally distributed between counties. Allowance of southern farmland zones to extend bow season passed to help decrease their overpopulation.

    The 2015 deer season wrap up included many facts such as the increase in female hunters, the rapid spread of CWD, law enforcement update concerning accidents and fatalities, and trespassing problems and how to go about solving them.
  • August 13, 2016

    The state of Wisconsin as a whole still has a very high deer overpopulation rate. Recommendations were suggested from board members including a higher amount of antlerless permits to be sold and allowing the Earn-A-Buck strategy to go into effect. Discussion about the upcoming harvest quickly approaching.

    The state is still very overpopulated, especially in the south/central farmland zones. Recommendations now included the debate of cheaper doe tags and incentives for property owners to allow access for deer hunting to bring numbers down.
  • March 18, 2017

    The 2016 deer season wrap up included many new facts such as 29% more female hunters, 90% compliance rate for new electronic registration, and lowered nonfatal hunting accidents. Elk release update going well.
