• Preparation for Upcoming Deer Season Focused on Goals

    This meeting called by co-chairman of the committee discussed and reviewed goals for the deer season. The meeting covered the research project started in 2010 with aid of UW-Steven's Point, deer health and CWD outbreaks. The Deer Trustee report was analyzed and made available online. Rules are being developed for the DNR board to review. Elk are being reintroduced to the Clam Lake area and implemented in Black River Falls. New lawmen are being introduced early next year.
  • Reviewing the 2013 Deer Season and Looking Forward to Improvements

    From the 2013 deer season, the total harvest surpassed 340,000. Because of last year’s winter effect however, the deer had poor antler development. The committee discussed the DNR doing a statewide assessment of deer through car accidents in March and April by using county advisory teams to adjust deer within the specific county. Teams will consist of various community members led by the conservation congress. There will be a three year effort to increase elk in Jackson County.
  • Controversey surrounding Deer and Rights

    The preparation for the 2014 deer season revolved around controversial issues that required attention. The committee discussed baiting and feeding of deer during the season, and resolved to let the public vote. The committee discussed the definition of albino deer and the continued efforts to protect and increase elk numbers. A vote was passed to implement antler point restrictions and a second notion was passed to allow white deer hunting in Wood County. Elk reintroduction is a success thus
  • Antlerless Tags and their Impact on Huntting

    The committee discussed antlerless tags and the discussion was centralized around whether the tags were unit specific. It was noted that free tags can be in a particular zone, and that in 2015 free antlerless tags can be unit specific. A motion was passed with a single opposition to have tags public and specific land in counties. It was also noted in the meeting that the committees are restricted by the DNR in assessment of address areas in the county in terms of deer numbers.
  • Meeting to Discuss Pertinent Advances and Deer Season Wrap-Up

    Committee members are asked to attend this adjournment to discuss the wrap-up of the 2014 deer season. Topics to be discussed will be the CDAC’s quota, youth antlerless permits, and an update on the implementation of elk in the Wisconsin counties. There will also be updated information on the continued deer research project along with news regarding the Deer Trustee Report instillation. This meeting will focus on recent advances.
