The Deer and Elk Committee of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress has met multiple times per year over the past three years with the goal of representing the citizens of Wisconsin by successfully managing the deer and elk population. for only edu purposes

    During the August 8th meeting in 2015, the Deer and Elk Committee passed a resolution to allow the extension of bow hunting season in the Southern Zone of Wisconsin. They also passed a resolution that ends the grouping together of Veterans and the elderly with first time youth hunters.

    During the March 19th meeting in 2016, the Committee discussed the conclusion of the 2015 deer season. They discussed the success of the new online registration system, which was effective 95 percent of the time with the help of customer service. They also concluded the deer research progress that they conducted with the help of DNR employee Dan Storm.

    During the August 13th meeting in 2016, the Committee passed a resolution to implement the earn-a-buck system for herd control, which states that hunters must first kill and tag a doe before being granted the opportunity to hunt for bucks.

    During the November 10th meeting in 2016, the Committee discussed and passed a resolution that provides incentives for landowners to allow citizens to hunt on their land. This resolution will generate more safe space to hunt and create a win-win situation for both parties.
  • 3-18-17

    During the March 18th meeting in 2017, the committee discussed the 2016 deer hunting season wrap up. There were 29 percent new women hunters, and the popularity of bow hunting continued to rise as gun hunting fell. Also, 90 percent of hunters were compliant with the new online registration system.
