    The Sixteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution
    Passed by Congress on July 2, 1909 and Ratified on February 3, 1913, the 16th Amendment permits Congress to impose an income tax without distributing it among the states based on population.
  • Woodrow Wilson Becomes President

    Thomas Woodrow Wilson becomes the 28th President of the United States in 1913.
  • The Start of World War I

    The Start of World War I
    The First World War officially starts in 1914. Much of war in Europe was fought in trenches and innovated the idea of trench warfare.
  • The Sinking of the Lusitania

    The Sinking of the Lusitania
    A little less than a year after World War I initially erupted, a German U-boat shot a torpedo at and sank a British ship known as the Lusitania. This in turn, killed 1,195 people aboard and 123 of those people were American citizens. In response to this, the United States formally entered the war and joined alongside their allies of Britain, France, and Russia, against Germany.     This became known as Armistice Day - the day Germany marked a cease-fire (an understanding for peace) which in effect, caused the fighting to stop.
