Darwin discovers many different species of tortoises and other animals that appeared to have some relation to the mainland animals. He is very amazed by all the animals he sees, and notices that most of the animals blended in with their surroundings. Darwin also notices how the finches on the islands have different shaped beaks compared to the ones back in England.

Darwin reaches the jungles of South America where he discovers many creatures. The Beagle also makes an unscheduled detour angering Darwin.

Darwin takes a walk along the sea coast and notices that the land is very uncultivated and consists of a black field of lava and coarse grass and bushes.

Darwin sees a large number of bullock wagons, and Table Mountain which is a long stretch of sandstone which rises very high behind a town.
