After his father noticed Darwin wasn't learning medicine how he thought. He changed his university to a more religious one. Christ College, Cambridge, which was a completely different environment of ideas from what he was used to.

After looking closely at fossils he had come in contact with over the years and especially when it came to studying three different species of Galapagos hummingbirds which had unique characteristics depending which island they inhabited thus led to his idea of "Transmutation" which we know as evolution.

Darwin drafted a 35-page sketch in which he would continue to work on for the next two years but refused to publish it but left a note to his wife stating if he die then he would have left money for it to be published.

After the death of his daughter, he lost faith in the church which then led him to release the restraints and explore the ideas of natural selection and theory of evolution. He began experimenting with seeds and how they speciate and the relation between different species of birds.
