    The Journey Begins
    Darwins Journey on the Beagle voyage began on December 27, 1831 at the age of 22. He was the captain's assistant. During this time Charles experienced a lot of seasickness.

    Charles Darwin traveled to Cape Verde Islands. During this time period Charles visited a few countries and wrote his experiences during his time of traveling in a journal. Darwin wrote in his journal that he was quite pleased with the countries he visited.

    Charles Darwin crosses the equator. Crossing the equator was a challenge. Darwin stated in his journal that their were times where the ship would be covered in buckets full of water. This is one slippery ride to remember! [ Pun Intended ]

    Salvador, Brazil
    Darwin arrives in Salvador, Brazil which led to him exploring the Brazilian rainforest. Charles noted in his journal stating how beautiful and vibrant the rainforest was.

    Darwin travel Punta Alta, Argentina. Darwin wrote in his journal stating how intrigued he was by the giant fossils.

    A captain named Robert Fitzroy brought three native people to England with him from a previous voyage. Fitzroy had a plan to spread the word about Christianity but his mission failed.

    Darwin travels to Falkland Islands, and finds fossils as well as two shelled animals.
  • Rio Negro, Argentina

    Rio Negro, Argentina
    Darwin explores lowland areas known as Pampas. Darwin journaled his experience with the local people known as gauchos. Darwin noticed how good it felt for the gauchos to be free knowing that they could go anywhere with their horses.

    January-February 1835. Darwin sets foot on Chiloé Island, he was able to see Mount Osorno erupt on the island. He also experienced the earthquake while he was there, him seeing effects of the earthquake was absolutely devastating for him to watch.

    September-October 1835. Darwin travels to Galapagos Islands, he found a variety of species that was very unique to him in contrast to other islands he visited. He noted in his journal how fascinated he was with the size of the turtles that lived on Galapagos Islands

    Darwin arrived in Sydney Cove. Darwin stated in his journal how proud he was to be born and Englishman and lived in a town. Darwin was also curious that their were different mammals in Australia.

    Cocos Islands ( Keeling Islands )
    Darwin travels to Cocos Islands to study coral reefs that were growing near the islands, he wanted to test his philosophy on atoll formation. Darwin stated how fortunate he was to be able to visit, study, and observe the islands.

    Darwin stated in his journal that he took a peaceful walk along the sea coast to the north of Mauritius. Darwin took note that he saw black law, coarse grass and bushes.

    Darwin travels to Cape Town, South Africa. Darwin noticed how their were so many bullock wagons. He knew about the well known Table Mountain in South Africa.

    Darwin was able to discover many amazing creatures in the jungles of South America.

    Darwin stated he arrived home in England during the night time. The Beagle ship was able to hold 74 people.
