On 14 May Yanish Ismael son of Danil Ismael was kidnapped by twelve armed men people when leaving a funeral in Ilafy. -
Grand Mellis Kidnapping
On the 7nth of June four heavily armed armed men kidnapped a man in Behoririka neighbourhood. The victim was is the owner of the Grand Mellis hotel in (Tsaralalàna). The family paid the ransom given given and the victim was released after a 10 day wrong way road trip. -
Indian - French - Released
A French-Indian national abducted on May 14 outside a Muslim cemetery in the Ilafy neighborhood of the capital Antananarivo was reportedly released on Monday, June 5. The victim, the 26-year-old son of the owner of a major Malagasy conglomerate, appeared to be in good health. The family is believed to have paid a ransom for his release. -

Officials reported on Monday, August 28, that a woman was abducted by bandits in Malaimbandy, southwestern Madagascar. Violent clashes reportedly broke out between bandits and police forces following the abduction, resulting in the deaths of the victim and one bandit. -
Ikongo Prison - 120 Held in Custody Escape
At least 120 prisoners escaped from the Ikongo prison, located in the east of the island, on Wednesday, December 13, after nearly 800 people stormed the prison in search of a murder suspect in order to lynch him. The mob reportedly overpowered the guards, briefly taking them hostage, and allowed 120 detainees to break out after they realized the person they were looking for had been moved to another facility.. -
