Period: 1890 to 1982 Cradle Mountain Important Events 1906 First recorded death of a European in the area occurred. 1906 Hanson’s Peak is named after Bert Hanson (16) who died. 1912 The Weindorfer’s built the first home in Cradle Valley. 1922 158, 000 acres of land was published as Scenic Reserve. 1930 A small copper mine along Dove Lake was worked. 1935 Lionel Connell became the first permanent ranger. 1965 Dove Lake Road was constructed. 1971 Cradle Mountain became a State Reserve. 1982 Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair became 1982 a part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
