Britain was in need of supplies and when the United States tried to send them supplies they were attacked by German submarines. The German submarines traveled in wolf-packs and attacked the ships when they would enter British water in the mid-Atlantic, which is where they were most vulnerable.

It was the first allied victory in World War II. It also was the first major fight to be fought entirely by air force. It stopped the Germans from invading Britain and it made Britain viewed stronger and more independent.

The Americans surrendered after being starved. Then the Japanese forced the Americans/Filipinos to march 65 miles north in horrible conditions to a camp up north. Any soldier that fell or stopped for water was shot and any civilian that offered water or food was also shot. It is known as one of the worst atrocities in modern history.

The battle was fought by aircraft. The ships never saw each other. And the US finally stopped Japan’s southward expansion.

It stopped Japanese advancement into the United States. Japan was going to invade Hawaii which included many important bases.

Germany was going into the battle in an offensive position, and the American forces were not only able to defend themselves, they destroyed a hung portion of the German military. It inflicted such a heavy toll on the German military that it is said to have been a major influence to the end of the war.
