Japanese military police, Kempeitai killed about 25,000 to 50,000 people during Sookching Massacre. They killed anyone whom they perceived as anti-japanese. During the Japanese colonization, Singapore was renamed syonan which means light of thes south. Japanese also established schools and educated singaporeans in Japanese.

After Japan surreders, Brtish did not turn to Singapore immediately so Singapore was in chaos. About two months after the surrender of Japan, Singapore was officially returned to British.
