  • The Seven Years' War

    The Seven Years' War
    The Seven Years' War took place between many nations in Europe. The conflict between France and England took place over colnial boundaries. The war was fought mainly between the colonies of New France and British America. It is popularly known as the French and Indian War in the United States.
  • The Seven Years' War ends

    The Seven Years' War ends
    When the war ended, England won, and France ceded their territory in New France east of the Mississippi River. Spain, who fought in the war on the side of the French, had to cede its colonies in Florida to England.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act of 1765 was put into place by the British government in the colonies. It was put into place to help pay off their war debt from the Seven Years' War. It put a tax on many paper items such as magazines, newspapers, and many more. It was repealed in March of 1766.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Masscre was an event in which British soldiers killed five civilians, and injured another six. Crispus Attucks was a runaway slave that was killed in the Boston Massacre, and he is well known for it. This event cause major resentment in the colony of Massachusetts

    The Tea Act was meant to help the British East India Trade Company in its finacial matters. It allowed free exports to the American colonies. The British governement had earlier set a tax on tea in the Townshend Acts which was still in effect. This was met with major resistance in the colonies.

    The Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was a protest by the Sons of Liberty against the taxes from the British government. Many colonists dressed up as Native Americans, and they dumped tea into Boston Harbor. This was one of the major events in American history.

    The Intolerable Acts were brought upon all of the colonies, but it mainly pertained to and was caused by Boston, Massachusetts. The acts closed Boston Harbor until the tea was paid for, banned town meetings, trial of British officers would take place in Britain, and made the colonists house the british troops and feed them.
  • First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress had delegates from twelve of the thirteen British colonies with Georgia not being present. They had a meeting in response to the Intolerable Acts which punished the city of Boston. They decided to boycott British good, and to ask for a repeal of the Intolerable Acts.

    The Battles of Lexington and Concord
    The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first fights of the American Revolution. In Concord the first shot fired were later known as the " Shot heard 'round the world." About 500 miltiamen defeated the British troops tasked to destroy the military supplies of the colonists.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    The Second Continental Congress consisted of originally only the twelve colonies, but Georgia joined in the month of June. By the time that they met again, the war had already begun. The decision was made to raise an army, and they put George Washington in charge of it.

    The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson, and it stated that the colonies are now independent states. The Second Continental Congress came up with the formal declaration of independence. Today the Declaration of Independence is known worldwide for the things it did and for what it promised.
