    Captain John Smith went on an expedition to explore the Chesapeake Bay Area (Which happens to be around Maryland)
  • King Charles I grants Lord Baltimore (Cecil Calvert) a charter giving him the land of Maryland

    Cecil Calvert was granted the charter after his father, George Calvert, died 2 months before he was supposed to receive the charter. Since George passed away, the title "Lord Baltimore", went to his eldest son, Cecil. The charter had granted Maryland to "Lord Baltimore", meaning that Cecil was the main proprietor of the land.
