  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Attempt to finance defence colonies by Britain caused a widespread protest. This was known as the Sugar Act and occured on April 5, 1764.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    On March 22, 1765 the Stamp Act occured. This is when Parliament required all legal documents to have watermarked or "stamped paper".
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act is when British troops could enter colonist living spaces ("Quarters") and not have to leave.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Declaratory Act was passed by Parliament on the same day the Stamp Act was repeated. The Act stated Parliament could make laws for the colonies and could tax the colonists.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Townshend Act occured on June 29, 1767. This is when taxes were placed on glass, tea, etc. It was to help pay for the administration of the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    On March 5.1770, angered British troops cauased an uproar. A crowd of colonist arose and one threw a snowball. It hit a British soldier which caused a shot to be fired. The shot killed 5 colonist. That was the start of the fighting and The Boston Massacre.

    The Tea Act occured on May 10, 1773. The parliament stopped all tea from importing to the Boston Harbor. Britan also put a tax on the tea. The Tea Act also allowed companies to individually sell to colonists.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    British ships pulled into the Boston Harbor and the colonist wanted to send the ships back to Britan with no taxes on tea. The British governer thought otherwise. That night colonist dressed as indians went onto the ships and dumped all the tea into the water.

    On March 24, 1774 the Coercive Act was passed. This act stated that no one could now load or unload ships in the Boston Harbor. Also the election of government for the colonies was now elected by the Crown in Britain.
  • First Continental Congress Meeting

    The First Continental Congress Meeting was between 12/13 colonies. (Not Georgia). The colonies sent 56 delegates to the meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to encourage colonist to stay away from using any Bristish goods.

    On October 14, 1774 the Declaration of Rights and Grievances was passed. It was issued by the Stamp Act.This act was where the battle cry for the colonist was formed. " No Taxation, without Representation!'
