  • The Potsdam Conference

    The Potsdam Conference
    The Allies decided what to do with Germany in the Potsdam Conference. They discussed and divided Germany into four different occupation zones. one-third was controlled by the Soviet Union while the rest was divided into three zones and each given to the United States, France, and Britain.
  • Conflict between U.S and Soviet Union

    Conflict between U.S and Soviet Union
    Conflict was beginning to form between the U.S and Soviet Union. The Soviet Union had taken over eastern Europe and spread the idea of Communism. This got the U.S angry since they saw communism as bad. President Truman of the U.S then said, "Another war is in the making"
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    Eastern Europe threatened the governments of Greece and Turkey. Truman found out about this and created the Truman Doctrine. The Truman Doctrine was a pledge that sent millions of dollars to Greece and Turkey as an aid to oppose the spread of communism.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall plan was created in order to help rebuild western Europe after World War II. It was created by George C. Marshall who sent billions of dollars to re construct the west part of Europe and to help people afford food and shelter. He did this because he was afraid that all people would turn to eastern Europe for help, which would then make them communists.
  • Berlin airlift

    Berlin airlift
    In west Berlin, leaders planned to become an independent nation and establish a democratic government. The Soviet Union opposed of this, and decided to close land, water, and rail routes in west Berlin. This kept people from importing food, coal, and other supplies. Western leaders then decided to use airlift to import food and supplies. They named it the Berlin airlift.
  • War in Korea

    War in Korea
    After WWII, the Allies took over the Korean peninsula. They divided half with the Soviet Union. East Korea was supported by communists and west Korea supported a non-communist regime. This immediately caused conflict between both sides. At one point, the north decided to attack the south. Hence, the Korean war soon began.
