President Harry Truman was the 33rd president of the United States. He gave the order to drop the Atomic Bombs on Japan, which ushered in the Cold War era. Truman's policy against the Soviet Union was containment (stop the spread of Communism to neighboring countries), this was supported by the Truman Doctrine and the creating of NATO.
