It was the first crisis of the Cold War when the city was divided in four parts where the ACC had control of West Berlin, which made Stalin prevent military supplies, water, road or transport through Eastern Germany into West Berlin.

    It was an economic and political factor created as close relations were established between Western European countries and the USA based on the Marshall plan so the Soviets responded with their own economic programme (COMECON). It was formed by the USSR, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Czechoslovakia among others. The objevtive of the COMECON was to provide economic stability to Eastern Eurpoean countries that suffered the loss of traditional markets.
