On September 3, America, Britain, France, and Russia signed the Four Power Agreement. It was meant to lessen the tension between them through Germany.

When Nixon visited the Soviet Union, he became the first US president to visit the Soviet Union. He met with Soviet leader Brezhnev, and they signed the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.

In June of 1972, Brezhnev visited America, and he and Nixon signed more treaties including the Prevention of Nuclear War Agreement which aimed to reduce the threat of a possible nuclear war.

Because of the Watergate scandal in which Nixon was involved in, he resigned in order to avoid incoming impeachment. After Nixon resigned, Gerald Ford was sworn in as the President on August 8.
