    CNN was first created in 1980 by Ted Turner. It was launched and aired for the first time on June 1, 1980. CNN stands for Cable News Network.
  • First Introduction

    At 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 1980, CNN launched their first introduction, and Ted Turner announced that, "We won't be signing off until the world ends. We'll be on, and we will cover the end of the world, live, and that will be our last event... and when the end of the world comes, we'll play 'Nearer, My God, to Thee' before we sign off."
  • Larry King Launched

    Larry King Launched
    In June, 1985, Larry King Live was launched on CNN. It was hosted by Larry King, and every night he would interview "prominent" people, usually celebrities, buisness people, etc.
    Until recently, the show was currently the longest-running and highest rated show on CNN.

    In 1985, CNN went international, and since then has become the world's leading global 24-hour news network.

    On January 28, 1986, during the Space Shuttle Challanger disaster, CNN was the only television channel to cover the launch and subsequent explosion live. Seven people were killed in this disaster.
