First Introduction
At 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 1980, CNN launched their first introduction, and Ted Turner announced that, "We won't be signing off until the world ends. In 1985, CNN went international, and since then has become the world's leading global 24-hour news network. -
Space Shuttle Disaster Coverage
On January 28, 1986, during the Space Shuttle Challanger disaster, CNN was the only television channel to cover the launch and subsequent explosion live. Seven people were killed in this disaster. -
Baby Jessica Rescue Coverage
On October 14, 1987, a baby named Jessica fell down a well in Texas. CNN rushed to the scene to report what was happening, and this event is said to have helped make their name. -
