Clara moves to south washington D.C. Before clara resided in New England but after the previous winter Clara could no longer stand the cold so she moved to Washington D.C.

In 1855 Clara became a cleark in a patitent office. Clara though, was a strong ablotionist and she had to quit her job because her views were becoming to debateable. After this Clara returned to New England.

After the civil war broke out the military was in need for people with medical training. After Clara heard about this she returned to D.C. in hopes of getting a job.

Clara heard of the needs for supplies at the front line hospitals so she decied to do something about it. In the early morning hours Clara brought a wagon full of medical supplies to a field hospital.

Clara had great succes as a nurse so she decided to move to Morris Island. In Morris island Clara could better follow the war and help more fallen union soldiers.

Abraham Lincoln appointed Clara General Corrisopondince for the friends of paroled prisoners. Clara was now one of the top military union docters.

Clara soon became a memember of the national red cross. This year the group got to travle to Switzerland and Clara joined them for the journey.

The outbreak of the Franco-Prussian war caused Clara to return to the battle fields. Clara wore a red cross she fashioned out of a ribbon on her apron.

In 1880 Clara decided to follow her dream. Clara establised the American Red Cross.

Clara's orginization had become a success. Clara served as the American Red Cross president untill 1904.
