  • Missouri Comprimise

    Missouri comprise was an agreement in 1819 proposed by Henry Clay to keep the number of slave states and frees states equal. Missouri wanted to become a slave state, North did not agree with this idea so North and the South caused a comprmise.
  • Nat Turner rebellion

    This ended the myth that "alaves were happy with their lives and unlikely to rebel".This was unliked by the South because there were slaves killing white slave owners and starting to inncrease the number of slave owner deaths. This caused Saouth to build up anger.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Comprise of 1850 was an agreement over slavery by California joining the union as a free state and a slave law was passes. Northenres were unhappy with the new law this caused them to be angry.
  • Figutive slave act

    Law passed that required all citizens to aid and capture all runaway slaves. Neither North or South got what they wanted, this caused tension to rise.
  • Kansas Nebraska- Act

    1854 law established the territories of Nebraska and Kansas giving the settelers the right of popular soverignty. Northerners protested by challenging the figutive slave act. Slaves in the North were unhappy.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Violent confrontation in 1856 between proslavery and atislavery forces in Kansas. Proslavery burned down a hhotel and newspaper in Lawrence. Anti slavery faught back and killed 5 settelers North. This caused North and South to hold a grudge against eachother.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Supreme court case which a slave Dred Scott sued for his freedom, he lost, federal power over slavery in territroies. North became mad at South because of the unfair court decision.
  • Lincoln Douglas debates

    Lincoln the republican ran against Douglas the demecrat for Illinoise senate seat. Lincloln was not able to support abolitionist in South which caused Southerners to get upset and gain anger towards the North also.
  • Raid on Harpers Ferry

    John Brown tried to lead revolt with slaves in South. John Brown carried antislavery campaign from Kansas to East.
  • Election of 1860

    Abraham won, Bell and Douglas tried to hold together the union. Southerners anted party to support slavery, Northeners did'nt want this, this caused a split.
