    Popular sovereignty would choose if a slave would be allowed in Kansas or Nebraska.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Proposed by Henry D. Thoreau. Nebraska was now a free state.

  • John Brown's Raid

    John Brown wanted to target a federal arsenal. Brown also hoped to arm enslaved people. Brown wanted to raid Harpers Ferry.
  • South Carolina Seceded

    South Carolina used the Constitution to seceed. They said they went into the union willingly so they have the right to leave.

    Lincoln was a republican. He wanted to leave slavery alone but, banned in some places.
