Battle of Lexington and Concord
This was the battle that had the shot heard all the way around the world. This battle happened because the colonist wanted self government. The British lost many men. -
Battle of Saratoga
It was the turning point of the war. British and Hessians surrendered in the battle. It included people from all the 13 colonies they were no real army. -

This battle led to the surrender of the British. It ended the revolutionary war. He surrender to keep or make peace. -

This was the first attempt to regulate slavery and it stated that any state that entered the union, enters with equality. Every state that entered the union enter with the same rights and laws. It also declared slavery illegal in the NWO territory. -
Louisiana Purchase
This was purchased land from France by the United States. It was bought for 15 million dollars. The purchase changed the size of the United States. -
Missouri Compromise
It was the agreement that if Missouri became a slave state than Maine would become a free state. It was known as the 36'30 line. It was to keep the number of slave states and free states to make sure that they are equal. -
Monroe Doctrine
It stated that North and South should no longer colonize. They were not to interfere with each other, with trading or anything. They had too many disagreements and were better apart. -
Nullification Crisis
It declared that states should have the right to declare a law or tax. it helped some companies pay for goods. Letting them declare law and taxes affected the Africans Americans, making it hard for them to vote, because it had a tax that they couldn't afford. -
Texas Annexation
Texas had waited 10 years to be admitted to the union due to balance of power. The issue was between who would be free states and who wouldn't, they were also border disputes. It express popular sovereignty. -
Oregon Treaty
Was the agreement between the British and Spanish about land that they had controversy over. The British said 54'40 or fight, the 54'40 line or fight. The land was at first divided between the Union, The Spanish, and the Americans. -

It ended the Manifest Destiny. It also gave America the control of land from the Atlantic to Pacific. The Americans were expanding more and more and expanding their way of life on to others. -
Compromise of 1850
It introduced popular sovereignty, which meant voters vote on the issue of slavery. It also replaced the Missouri compromise. It also made a law that stated if a runaway slaves was located in the North, they should return them immediately. -
Bleeding Kansas
Explains the disagreement between pro and anti slavery. The controversy between who would be a free state and who wouldn't. It ended violently. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This event decided whether a state would be a free or slave state. There were disagreements between pro and anti slavery states. It then led to Bleeding Kansas. -
John Brown's raid
He was a violent abolitionist and used violence to try to push away slavery. John Brown attempted to give African American men weapons to start a rebellion. He was killed for his beliefs. -
Battle of Bull Run
This battle was won by the confederacy. It was led by General Lee and he lead well. The people who hope the war would end were shocked because it definitely didn't. -
Battle of Fort Sumter
This battle was the first battle and it is when Anderson Surrendered because his army lacked the weapons they needed against the confederacy. They didn't want the slaves to be freed at all, they liked being higher in power. This happened because Sc and other states left union because they thought Lincoln was going to abolish slavery. -
Battle of Antietam
This battle was the bloodiest day in history of war. It was also was the first invasion into North by the South. They invading so that they could relieve the controversy between them. -
Battle of Gettysburg
It was the bloodiest battle. It Also was the second and last attempt for the South to invade the North. They invaded so that they could get the trouble over with. -
Battle of Vicksburg
This battle was when the union gained control of the Mississippi River. It also split the confederacy in half and allowed Ulysses S. Grant to become general-in-chief. -
Emancipation Proclamation
it was the military measure against the confederacy. There was war caused by the issue of slavery. It declared that all slaves should be freed. -
Gettysburg's address
It expressed Lincolns plan to preserve the Union. To ensure that all citizens are equal and that all men are created equal. -
Presidential reconstruction
The goal was to preserve the Union, it included Lincoln's 10 % plan. It was a quick and easy way to reconnect the Southern states to the Union. It happened from 1863 to 1867. -
Sherman's march to sea
General T. Sherman He marched through the South, To Atlanta to Savannah to capture Savannah. He did it so that the people of Georgia would abandon the confederate cause. -
13th amendment
this amendment freed all slaves. It made all slaves free and they were able to get jobs that included payment. -
14th amendment
this amendment overturned Dred Scott, stating that no African American is a citizen, but they are owned property. The African Americans were later granted citizenship. -
Congressional reconstruction
The goal was to punish the south. It allowed African Americans to vote. Congress also gained control of the reconstruction because of the impeachment of Johnson, because he was weakened. It started in 1867 to 1877 -
15th amendment
This amendment gave all freedmen the right to vote. Only men were able to vote, but there were complications with them really voting. -
Plessy v. Ferguson
Stated that Blacks and Whites were " separate and equal". It stated that blacks and white had the same things but one had better, it allowed segregation and discrimination. The blacks got everything that wasn't worth giving to anyone.
