John Brown attacked Harpers Ferry in attempt to get weapons to be able and lead a slave revolt. John got caught hanged for treason.The south then realized how far the North is willing to go to abolish slavery. -
Lincolns election
Lincoln was the only candidate that wasn't pro slavery. He was elected because the south split their vote 3 ways. This resulted in the south seceding. -

The south attacked as the Union was trying to reload but since they weren't ready they ended up surrendering the fort to the south. The war offically started
