    This caused the civil war because the main reason for the division between the north and south, also the succession of the southern states can be traced back to slavery.

  • John Brown's Raid

    The raid added to the belief and fear in the south that the north would try to wipe out slavery not only in the new territories, but in the south as well.

  • The Election of 1860

    This election caused a division in the Democratic Power because they could not agree how the new states and territories should be organized.

  • Lincoln's Presidency

    To the south Lincoln's presidency was a sign or threat to there way of life and greatest economic advantage; Slavery.

  • The Secession

    South Carolina succeeded from the Union give other states the courage to follow: Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, Georgia, ect.

  • The Confederate Constitution

    The addition of a constitution in the confederacy marked the beginnings of a conflict between the two powers over the legitimacy of the southern states secession.
