    Slave rebellion in Southhampton, Virginia. 55-65 people died and rebellion was put down in a few days. Increased tensions because it caused the South to want to have a tighter hold on their slaves.

Also banned slavery in DC and added the Fugitive Slave law. Decreased tensions by giving each side something they wanted.
