    Emmet Till, a boy from Chicago kidnapped and murdered while visiting family in Mississippi
  • Montgomery Bus Boycotts

    Very significant because it almost shut down major bus companies because of the lack of users for an entire year
  • Little Rock 9

    First black children to attend an all-white school in Little Rock, Arkansas. Broke educational segregation
  • Lunch Counter sit-ins (Greensboro start date)

    brought pride to younger generations to fight for civil rights and forced places like Woolworth's to change their segregation policies.
  • Freedom Bus Rides

    Fought for the change of segregation in transportation and bus terminals.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

  • March on Washington

    Most famous MLK speech with over 250,000 attendees, famous "I have a dream" speech.
  • Birmingham protests

    Ended segregation in public bathrooms, drinking fountains, restaurants, and other establishments that serve the public.
  • Freedom (Mississippi) Summer

    Wanted to bring awareness of the violent oppression of Civil Rights and increase the amount of voter registration among black communities.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    This Act outlawed unfair voting practices like the literacy test and other practices brought in after the Civil War during reconstruction.
  • Selma Marches

    Protest to allow voting for everyone, including black people. March from Selma, but got very violent at the end of the bridge leaving Selma.
