Linda Brown lived by a white school and she wasn't allowed to go but her dad wanted her to. He went to court over the matter so his daughter wouldn't have to ride the bus.

Emmet Till

Apr 10, 1955

He bought candy at a store and as he was leaving he said something to the white owners wife. This was considered out of his place and he was killed. The killers were put on trial but were found innocent. Later they admitted to killing till.

Rosa Parks

She refused to give up her bus seat and was arrested.

Lunch Counter sit-ins

In cities all over America black people were sitting in at all white diners and resturants.

Demonsrations

Blacks started to enforce their beliefs with marches and rallies signifying they wish to be totally free and equal.

Freedom Rides

Blacks rode buses and stayed in their seat when they where told to move. Then the KKK beat the riders up and set the bus on fire.

Martin Luther King Arrested

Martin Luther King was arrested in 1962 at a black demonsration. He was criticized by whites for going too far to fast. He wrote a letter from the jail.

James Meredith

Oct 10, 1962

James wanted to enroll in the Mississippi State university. The supreme court said that he could but the state won't let him. He fiannaly gets in with the help of US marshalls

Bombing of Church

The KKK bombed a black church and killed the children at Sunday School.

Voting Rights Act

THere were northerners that had come down to get blacks registered to vote but some refused for fear of being hurt or killed by the KKK. A lot of people showed up though.

Murder of cIvil rIghts workers in Mississippi

Three civil rights activists were murdered by the KKK. This prompted the FBI to investigate and they found 44 more bodies in Philidelphia, Mississippi.

Jimmie Lee Jackson

Jimmie Lee Jackson was killed by the KKK at a church meeting.

Bloody Sunday

There was a march after Jackson was killed and a fight broke out.

Voting Rights March

They put on a voting rights march and a fight broke out. There was tear gas let off and people were injured.

Martin Luther King is assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennesse.

Fred Hampton

He is shot by the police in a raid but the police are not charged because it was in self-defense.
