All parties in the House of Commons unanimously pledged to eradicate poverty among children in Canada by the beginning of the 21st century/the year 2000. This is known as Motion 534 - put forward by MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan.

In 2009, the pledge to end child poverty was repeated, as no government progress had been made since the first pledge in 1989, which was 20 years before.

The Keep the Promise campaign was launched in 2013 and ended in 2015, with similar goals as Campaign 2000. They worked with schools and communities by launching projects within these communities to help raise awareness about and end child poverty.

Once more, a debate was held in Parliament and motion 534 was put to vote on February 4, 2015. This was 6 years after the second discussion of the pledge.
