Chemistry Atom Scientists

  • John Dalton

    John Dalton
In 1776, John Daltin was born in Eaglesfield, UK. He was the creator of Dalton’s Law and the idea of atoms repelling on one another. In 1803 he discovered that oxygen combined with either one or two volumes of nitric oxide in closed vessels over water and this observation helped him discover his incipienr atomic idea. He was elected president of the Liberary and Philosophical Society in 1817.
  • J.J Thomson

    J.J Thomson
In 1856, J.J Thomson was born in England. He discovered that all matter, no matter its source, contains particles of the same kind that are much less massive than the atoms of which they form a part. They are now called electrons. He found the electron by experimenting with a Crookes or cathode ray tube. He showed that the cathode rays were negatively charged. J.J won the Nobel prize in 1907.
  • Max Planck

    Max Planck
In 1858, Max Planck was born in Kiel, Germany. He was the creator of Planks Constant which is used a lot in todays Chemistry. He was able to find this by measuring heat radiation given off by vibrating atoms. He won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1918
  • Ernest Rutherford

    Ernest Rutherford
In 1871, Ernest Rutherford was born in New Zealand. He found that all known radioactive elements emit two kinds of radiation. He found this by conducting the well known Gold Foil Experiment. Rutherford won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1908.
  • Albert Einstein

    Albert Einstein
In 1879, Albert Einstein was born in Germany but moved to New Jersey. Einstein is beat known for his equation E=mc2 and his theory of quantum mechanics . To find this he used multiple equations to find a constant and found that energy and mass are the equal. He won the Nobel Prize for physics in 1921
  • Niels Bohr

    Niels Bohr
In 1885, Niels Bohr was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Bohr was best known for his idea of the quantum theory. He made a model atom to show this. He received the Noble Prize for Physics in 1922 and he also helped many Jewish scientists escape from Germany during the Nazi invasion.
  • Erwin Schrodinger

    Erwin Schrodinger
In 1887, Erwin Schrodinger was born in Austria. He was mostly known for his Schrodinger equation, To find this he used mathematical equations to come up with his own. He won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1933.
  • Werner Heisenberg

    Werner Heisenberg
In 1901, Werner Heisenberg was born in Munich. He discovered the act of measuring an electrons properties by hitting it with Gama rays. He found this by using Planks constant. Heisenberg became the youngest full professor in the country.
