    Early life

    Charles Darwin was born on February 12, 1809. His mother passed when he was a child in 1817. Charles was always interested in the natural sciences growing up, but his father wanted him to study medicine. Charles neglected his medical studies so his father forced him to study theology. He graduated from Cambridge with honors in 1830 and was prepared to become a clergyman, but went on an expedition with his reverend which sparked his interest in geology
  • H.M.S. Beagle

    In 1831 Reverend John Stevens Henslow recommended Darwin to the crew of the H.M.S. Beagle, in which he became the captains assistant. From then till 1836, Charles sailed the coast of South America, and studied all the different wildlife along the way. He eventually made it to the Galapagos islands.
  • Theory of Evolution

    After gather his thoughts in a published journal and further studying his findings during his 5 year expedition, Charles Darwin published his book "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle of Life".   • Survival of the Fittest
