    The Copley Medal is an award presented to scientists with astounding and groundbreaking research in their respected areas of study. The book "On the Origin of Species" written in 1859 was one of the most notable reasons Darwin was presented with this award. Darwin's theories of evolution are important even in modern science.     "Fertilisation of Orchids" a book written by Darwin discussed how Orchids are fertilized by insects. This brought later scientific advancement and discovery in that this concept can be applied to several different types of plants as well. Later books were published to further back up his concepts mentioned in this book.
