He was born in Shrewsbury on 12 February 1809,
he was the fifth of six children of wealthy society doctor and financier Robert Darwin and Susannah Darwin. -

In October 1825 Darwin entered the University of Edinburgh to study medicine at the decision of his father. -
Survey voyage on HMS Beagle
Darwin spent most of that time investigating geology and making natural history collections, while HMS Beagle surveyed and charted coasts, and he kept careful notes of his observations. -
Return from trip
By the time Darwin returned to England, he was already a celebrity in scientific circles, as in December 1835 Henslow had published a pamphlet of Darwin's geological charts for select naturalists. -

He died in Downe, Kent (England) on April 19, 1882.
He had expected to be buried in St Mary's churchyard at Downe but at the request of William Spottiswoode (President of the Royal Society) he arranged for Darwin to be honored with a burial at Westminster Abbey.
