He finds that while these species are unique to the Galapagos Islands, they hold similar bearings to other mainland species. He was fascinated and delighted with the enormous tortoises that were large enough for a human to ride. He also studied the finches of the Galapagos keenly.

Even though Darwin found amazinf creatures in the jungles of South America, he found himself terribly seasick and homesick. This was unfortunate because the Beagle had taken an unscheduled detour for maintenance.He noted that he 'abhorred the sea' at this point.
