Charles Darwin

  • Early life of Mr. Darwin

Charles Darwin was born on February 12th , 1809 in Shrewsbury, United Kingdom. When he was a young boy, Darwin was fascinated with the natural world. He was a voracious reader of nature books, and he often spent his time exploring the woodland areas around his home in Shropshire
  • Education

In 1825, his father sent Darwin to study medicine at the Edinburgh University. He later noted that he had little knowledge of the field after two years. During his time at the university, Darwin was exposed to the best science education in the country. He was taught about the chemistry of rocks and how to classify plants. He also learned about birds and colonial flora through the Edinburgh Museum.
  • Darwin’s voyage of the beagle

his ideas were mainly based on his observations during his travels across the globe. In 1831 to 1836, Darwin was part of an expedition that was traveling through Australia, South America, and Africa. During each stop, he was able to observe and catalog the local animals and plants. During his travels, Darwin came across various patterns in the appearance and distribution of organisms. For instance, he was able to identify several important patterns in the organisms he saw in the Galpagos Islands
  • theory of Evolution

Darwin believed that evolution can be caused by natural selection. According to this theory, organisms can produce more offspring than they can tolerate in their natural environment. According to Darwin's theory, all of the species that have existed throughout history share a common ancestor, and each of them has its own unique genetic differences. Repeated branching events would result in new species splitting away from the common ancestor and forming a tree with a multi-level structure.
