  • Nebraska's First Arbor Day

    Nebraska's First Arbor Day
    It was encouraged for planting trees in barren Nebraska land. There was a prize for the best trees and most planted of $50, and $25 to the second place winner. This encouraged people to plant trees so they could win money that would hopefully help them.

    It was mainly fought in Europe, and there were 2 powers, Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy), & Allied Powers (Great Britain, France, Russia). The US Joined in 1917 on the Allied Power, but they didn't want part in the war until the Lusitania was sunk in 1915 which held Nebraskans. Over 50,000 Nebraskans served with 1,655 casualties.

    America Enters World War I
    America didn't want to be part of the war until the Lusitania was sunk in 1915 which made many Americans oppose Germany. Citizens contributed by growing food and buying war bonds.
  • Race Riots in Omaha

    Race Riots in Omaha
    The Race riots happened due to an assumption of a Black Man raping a White woman. Because of this, there were mass mobs of white men ready to attack any Black person.
  • Kool-Aid Establishment

    Kool-Aid Establishment
    Perkins was only 12 years old when he invented Fruit Smack. After it began to hit stores, WWII was happening, so they suspended production until the end of the war. Later Perkins changed the name from Fruit Smack, to Kool-Aid which is it's current name today. For every year that they celebrate being around, they come up with a new flavor to share with the public.

    The Great Depression

    Farmers were suffering because they were dealing with low prices, and they were suffering in 1920s, but they really started to suffer in 1930s. Millions of Americans lost money, and farmers were losing their farms.

    The economy fell because the stock market crashed. Farmers were already in a bad spot in 1920s, but the 30s made it worse. There were many dust storms and many families left Nebraska because of it.

    The First Secession of the Unicameral
    The idea was put into place to avoid greed from the senators. It rewrote laws that would only benefit them, so Nebraska decided to get rid of that problem and only have the first Unicameral.

    Nebraska had K-9 training at Fort Robinson which was opened in 1942 and closed in 1946. Women helped fight in the war, as well as making ammunition for the solders on the frontlines.

    America Enters WWII
    America had opened many sections for women to help fight on the frontlines. They did the same things as all the men, as well as taking over their rolls because they were fighting in the war.

    SAC is at Offutt Air Force Base

    SAC was an air force base that was apart of the major air forces. For a long time they had a planes on stand by ready to go up and shoot the enemy down, but when things were settling down, they had only a couple of planes ready to go.
  • UNL Students protest the Vietnam War

    UNL Students protest the Vietnam War
    The students wanted to show their disapproval for students murders. They also were against Nixon's campaign in Cambodia because nothing was getting solved there.
