    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    The 1215 charter required King John of England to proclaim certain liberties, and accept that his will was not arbitrary. Magna Carta was the first document forced onto an English King by a group of his subjects, the feudal barons, in an attempt to limit his powers by law and protect their privileges
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    A bill passed by Parliment inviting them to become joint sovereigns of England. It lays down limits on the powers of sovereign and sets out the rights of Parliament.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    Albany Plan of Union
    Benjamin Franklin's attempt at joining the colonies in a union. Franklin's plan of union was one of several put forth by various delegates of the Albany Congress.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British Soldiers stationed in Boston were surrounded by a crowed of colonists subjected to taunts and threats and objects thrown. The soldiers fired into the crowd killing 5 and wounded a couple more.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A rebillion against british rule where colonists dumped tons of tea into the Boston River.
  • First Continental Congress

    Convention of delegates from twelve British colonies, called in response to the Coercive Acts by the british parliament.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    The Second Continental Congress was a convention of delegates from the Thirteen Colonies that started meeting on May 10 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, soon after warfare in the American Revolutionary War had begun. It eventually lead to independence,and adopting the United States Declaration of Independence
  • Articles of Confederation

    Articles of Confederation
    An agreement between the first 13 states that legally established the USA as a confederation of sovereign states. Later in 1789 the articles were replaced for the actual U.S constitution
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion
    A uprising that took place in central and western Massachusetts. Resulted in the deaths of 5 rebels. It was rioting from veterans that went unpaid for their services and couldn't pay their debt
  • Virginia Plan

    Virginia Plan
    A proposal by Virginia delegates for a bicameral legislative branch. The Virginia Plan was notable for its role in setting the overall agenda for debate in the convention and, in particular, for setting forth the idea of population-weighted representation in the proposed national legislature.
