    It is document accepted by King John of England which basically establishes that the power of the monarchy was not absolute and guaranteed trial by jury. The Magna Carta help protecting against the arbitrary taking of life, liberty, or property.

    This is a major English constitutional document that sets out specific liberties of the subject that the king is prohibited from infringing
  • English Bill of RIghts

    English Bill of RIghts
    This document established an act declaring the rights and liberties of the subject and settling the succession of the crown. They guarunteed the right to fair trial, freedom from excessive bail, and from cruel and unusual punishment.

    This was a plan to place the British North American colonies under a more centralized government.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    This event was a street fight that broke out between a "patriot" mob and a squad of British soldiers. They fought with snowballs, stones, and sticks. The British soliders killed 3 on the spot, 8 wounded, but then later 2 died from the 8.
  • Boston Tea Party

    This event was a civil rebellion against the oppressive taxes by the British government on the colonists. Colonist boarded vessels in Boston harbor and threw the cargoes of tea into the water in protest of imposing tax on tea by the British Parliament.

  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    This meeting was right after the battles of Lexington and Concord. They established a Continental army and appointed George Washington a commander-in-chief. This meeting also lead to writing the Olive Branch Petition to bring about peace.

    This plan was pitched at the Constitutional Convention. The plan was to recommend three branches of government and that all state laws would be subject to the veto by national legislature.
