Cell Theory

  • Robert Hooke

    Robert Hooke
Robert Hooke discovered the cell approximately in 1665. In cork he discovered the organization of cells and introduced the word cell to science. Hooke looked through a microscope that was 50x the magnification and saw little spaces in between a piece of cork he was looking at.
  • Anton Van Leeuwenhoek

    Anton Van Leeuwenhoek
Leeuwenhoek discovered the cell apprximately in 1674 while looking through a microscope examining pond water. Leeuwenhoek also redifined the microscope with the magnification increasing to atleast 270x. Leeuwenhoek discovered other cells with bacteria and this further advanced the idea of cells because without bacteria it would be hard for scientists to make the cell theory.
  • Henri Dutrochet

    Henri Dutrochet
Henri Dutrochet discovered the cell in 1824. He discovered his theory through a microscope. Also he proposed that new cells arose from old ones. Dutrochet's theory disproved the previous theory because he stated that the cell was the basic unit of organisms unlike the other scientists they were just discovering and grouping cells together.
  • Felix Dujardin

    Felix Dujardin
Dujardin discovered the cell under a microscope approximately in 1835. He was the first to group single-celled animals, today known as protozoans. Stated that cells were not hollow but like a jellylike substance, which is known as protoplasm. Dujardin made his discovery just like the scientists before him, under a microscope. Dujardin had more information on the cell because technology was more advanced, during his era, and the magnification was probably much greater than the last scientists.
  • Matthais Schleiden

    Matthais Schleiden
Schleiden discovered the cell approximately in 1838. He founded that all plants are made up of cells. Like the rest of the scientists Schleiden did his discoveries under a microscope. Schleiden's theory proved Dutrochet's theory because he concluded that all plants have cells, which if that is the case then the cell is the basic structure of organisms.
  • Theodor Schwann

    Theodor Schwann
Theodor Schwann discovered the cell approximately in 1839. He stated that animals are made of cells. He used Scheiden's theory on plant cells and realized that animals have cells and organisms consist of one or more cells. Schwann's theory actually proved Dutrochet's and Schleiden's theories because organisms are consisted of one or more cells which proved cells are the basic structure of organisms.
  • Rudolph Virchow

    Rudolph Virchow
Rudolph Virchow discovered the cell approximately in 1855. His constribution to the cell theory was that he concluded that all living things comes from living things. He looked at tissues and noticed that the same cells were on diseased tissues and healthy tissues. Virchow's theory proves Schwann's theory because each new generation of a species has the same cells.
