    it was a religious revival that impacted a ton of people. It led to the first black church. It also led to the first female minister in America.
  • Creation of the cotton gin

    Creation of the cotton gin
    This machine sped up the process of cleaning cotton. The cotton gin could produce around 50lbs of cotton a day. The cotton gin helped with reducing the time of producing clean cotton. This did not stop from farmers getting greedier by buying more land and buying more slaves. This increased tension because people were mad that slavery was increasing and not decreasing.

    Louisiana Purchase
    It was the purchase of the rights of the west in the Mississippi River. It came from France. Slavery became more of a problem after the Louisiana Purchase. It was purchased for 15 million dollars; this added a lot to the great plains. This meant that there was going to be more slaves in use because of the new land that was acquired.

    It was a law passed by Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state. Everyone in the south thought that it was unconstitutional because they thought that Congress was making laws around slavery. This created more anger in the south.

    It was between South Carolina and the federal government because they tried to declare void in the state. The rich slave owners were taking a side against the Democrats. This event made the south and north even more segregated.

Southerners believed that if a person did not protect slavery expansion, they supported abolition. This happened because they could not decide whether they wanted it to be a free or slave state

    This was when people were rushing west to get rich because of all the gold that was found in California. Many people moving to California were very racist to indigoes people. This created more tensions between them. Whites forced indigoes people to dig mines for them causing thousands of them to die.

    It was when the slave trade in Washington. DC was banned. This caused the southern states to think that slavery was ending. Making more tensions between the south and north.

    Beecher Stowe wrote a book about slavery that was very immoral and wasn’t how everyone was saying it was. It showed a lot of white people how slavery was very evil. It also helped change people's minds about slavery in the north because they were not exposed to slavery.

    He gave a speech about signing the Declaration of Independence.
    This led to more and more people learning about speech and slavery. This changed people's minds and they learned more about how slavery was terrible.

    The Missouri Compromise created two territories and allowed for a popular vote. This led to many people surrounding the states. Leading them to rush to vote and many people were killed. This made the Pro-slavery people furious making them start fights with weapons.

There were many little wars during it and created more tension in the north and south. Many people were killed during the bleeding Kansas due to different opinions.

    This led to people still talking about if slavery is acceptable or wrong. People in this time were choosing sides and most people were scared of the expansion of slavery.

    The case was about a slave that was living in a free state but the citizens living there said that "he did not have freedom there. It created citizenship for black people. Also, it made Missouri unconstitutional because they were making laws about slavery.

    Raid on Harpers Ferry

    They tried to raid a ferry with a group against an army.
    In this fight 16 people were killed, 10 being John Brown's men. Southerners became more anxious about new violence. They viewed John Brown as a terrorist because of his insane acts.
  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860
    The people that were being elected were Abraham Lincoln and John C. Breckinridge. The first Republican president was elected. This created more separation between non-slavery and pro-slavery. The new party being elected pushed the country into a civil war.
  • Shots fired at Ft. Sumter

    Shots fired at Ft. Sumter
    This was the official start of fighting in the American Civil War. Union troops (northern troops) stationed at Ft. Sumter in South Carolina were attacked by the South Carolina militia. Union troops lost and surrendered the fort to the Confederate militia. Unlike previous acts of violence, this was the first-time violence broke out between organized military troops. Fighting in the Civil War would continue for 4 more years after this event.

    It was when 11 states became free states, this was a part of the Civil war. Southern states were mad about the states and got mad at the north creating more tension. Northerners and Southerners kept growing farther and farther apart making the states choose different economic paths.
