  • The Missiouri Compromise

    The Missiouri Compromise
    The idea of slavery was a very heated topic between the northern and southern poltics. Henery settled the heated topic by perposing the Missiouri Compromise. The compromise said that Maine would be admitted as a free state and Arkansas would be open to slavery. It also stated that any new states that were admitted above the thirty six, thirty line would be slave state.
  • The Nulification Crisis

    The Nulification Crisis
    Becasue of the tariff passing laws southern states, such as South Carolina, though that these tariffs were unfair and only showed support to the North. As a reslut President Calhoun said that a state could void any federal law that they though went against the constitution. When the federal government denied that South carolina had a right to reject a law they though unconstitutional, the state threatneded to secede. As a solution Henry Clay came up with a compromise that lowerd the tariff.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    After the war with Mexico, congress had many problems deciding whether or not slave should be allowed in the new territores aquired from Mexico. Henry Clay stepped in and saved the day by coming up with another compromise. It stated that Califorina would be a free state and that the other territories from Mexico, would be unorganized. (They could pick if they wnat to free or not.)

    the Fugitive Slave Act was an act that told people to capture slaves who had fled yto the North or were fleeing to the North.These laws heated the topic of slavery even more, leading John Brown's rasid and the Civil War.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    During the election for a Kansas state legislature 5000 people who liked slavery came over and voted illegally for a proslavery representative. When the votes had been counted Kansas had a pro-slvary legislature. The abolitionnist started their own government, as a reslut they were attacked by the people who wanted slavey. To avenge this attack John Brown murdered several of his neighboors who wanted slaves.
  • Dred Scott Descision

    The descision that the Missiour Compromise did follow with the constitution, and congress did not have the authority to abolish slavery. ZThis angered the anti-slavery northerns, but brought joy yo the southerners. The court case Dred Sccott vs. Sanford took place.
  • Attack on Harper's Ferry

    Attack on Harper's Ferry
    John Brown was an abolitionsit who encouraged enslaved people to fight for their freedom. His plan do to do this was to take the arsenal from Harper's ferry and arm the enslaved. Unfortunatley his plan back fired and he and his men were captured. Fellow anti-slavery people admired Brown as he was killed. His actions had raised the issue of slavery in America.
  • The Election of 1860

    The Election of 1860
    Abraham Licolin was an anti-slavery person who ran in the 1860 presidental election. Licolin won the election and many southern states started to secede becuase they feared Lincolin would abolish slavery.
