    The cotton gin caused the South to grow rapidly in prduction of cotton. This made them more dependent on slavery and plantations because with them they can work faster and make more money.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Since the Missouri Compromise of 1820 split the North and South to distinguish slave states many slaves ran to the states in the North to be free.
  • Free-Soil Party

    Free-Soil Party
    Free-Soil party was a 3rd party that opposed slavery. This brought many conflicts that spurred the south and people who supported slavery which is the start of a disagreement.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    Since Claifornia asked to be a free state Senator Henry Clay introduced this act to compromise the balance between slave and free states and prevent any crisis between North and South. This caused the Fugitive Slave act to rise and the Slave trade in Washington to be abolished.

    People who were born free stay free but people that were born as slaves have to stay as slaves and anybody can accuse an african-american from being a slave and take them to slavery. Therefore many people realized that this was an act that took free people into slavery and people fought for being treated who they really are.

    This book spurred all over the north side to help realize how slavery is and how every act that is imposed is negatively affecting the world. This is changing peoples mind of the world they live in so they will turn into anti slavery people.
  • Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad

    Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad
    Harriet Tubeman was born a slave and escaped slavery. She came back to slavery to teach people how to be free therefore, many slaves were escaping which caused an uproar from their owners to not allow free african-americans.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Many political confrontations were present in Kansas territory including Anti and pro slavery. This reached a point where both sides were competing and it showed that there needs to be only one side all over the country.
  • Dred Scott v. Sandford

    Dred Scott v. Sandford
    A slave sued for his freedom due to the fact that he was living in a free state and his owner was in a free state. This went to the Supreme Court and his case was denied therefore many people in the North realized how the government treated slaves. They had no protection as a citizen.

    He won with the electoral college and tried to abolish slavery. This caused many disagreements with Southern owners and the President and Northern people.
