  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
    August 1940-October 1940| Countries involved: Germany&Britain
    The battle was held in Britain over the English Channel when the German air force attempted to gain air superiority over the RAF, Germany also wanted to destroy London and other major cities because before Germany could invade Britain they had to gain air superiority over the English Channel. This battle was a fail for Germany but it raised the confidence of the Allied forces. This marked the first time the Nazis were beat.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa
    22 June 1941-5 September 1941| Countries involved: Germany&Soviet Union.
    Operation Barbarossa was when the Axis power invaded the Soviet Union because Hitler wanted to conquer the Soviet territories abd he wanted to defeat communism happening in the USSR. The USSR defeated Germany and its allies.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Countries involved: Japan and the United States
    Japan bombed the US military/naval bade in Oahu Hawaii because Japan was upset that the US had stopped trade with Japan and froze money assets of Japan in US banks. 2,400 US people died, 2 US ships were sunk, and multiple planes and ships were destroyed. Because of this bombing, US declared war on Japan and joined World War II.
  • Bataan Death March

    Bataan Death March
    Countries involved: US, and Philippines
    60-80,000 Filipino and American Prisoners Of War were transported by the Japanese Imperial Army to Camp O'Donell in Capas, Tarlac. They started in Mirveles, Bataan to San Fernando, Pampnga then the survivors would go from San Fernando to Camp O'Donell. Filipino and American POW's were physically abused, murdered, and resulted in very high fatalities inflicted upon prisoners and civilans. This resulted in the largest surrender in American history.
  • Operation Overlord

    Operation Overlord
    Countries involved: Germany, US, UK, France- (Main commander: Dwight Eisenhower)
    Operation Overlord was when the Allie forces attacked Normandy beaches to try to take back France from Germany. This happened in Normandy, France because the allie powers wanted to take France back from Germany. The allie powers took over France in the end.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    16 December 1944-25 January 1945| Countries involved: Germany, US, UK, France, Canada. The battle of the Bulge was a major German offensive launched through the Ardennes mountains in Belgium, Luxembourg (which was part of Nazi Germany then). The battle happened because Hitler wanted to try and change the course of the war on the western front but the Allies won and Germany lost.
  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    Key People: President Roosevelt, Prime Minister Churchill, and General Secretary Stalin. The Yalta Conference was the meeting of the heads of governments to discuss the re-establishment of the nations of war-torn Europe. The conference took place in Livadia Palace near Yalta, Crimea. The Allies agreed that Germany ould have to pay for the war reparations and the Soviet Union would enter war against Japan.

    The battle of Iwo Jima was when the US firces fought for an captured the island of Iwo Jima for the Japanese forces because Americans were looking for a place closer to Japan to store war supplies. US captured the island of Iwo Jima.

    V-E Day is when there was victory in Europe in World War II. This affected all of Europe because the Allies defeated Germany which led to victory in Europe and the end of World War II.
  • Dropping the Atomic Bomb

    Dropping the Atomic Bomb
    First bomb was on 6 August 1945. Second bomb was on 9 August 1945.| Countries involved Japan and US, Main commander- Harry Truman. An atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima and 3 days later another bomb was dropped in Nagasaki, Japan. Both of the bombs were dropped in Japan, one in the city of Hiroshima and another on the city of Nagasaki. The bombs were dropped because the US wanted Japan to surrender which they did. Because of the immense destruction by the bombs, WWII ended
  • V-J Day

    V-J Day
    Countries involved: Japan, the allies and all the countries involved in World War II. V-J Day is the day that Japan surrendered to the Allies and the US won over Japan, ending World War II. V-J Day happens/is celebrated in military bases all around the world. US won over Japan which ended WWII so V-J Day is like a memorial day to remember that today was the day WWII ended. The significance of this event is that WWII ended!
