1900 Orff started studying the piano at the age of five, and he also took organ and cello lessons.
At 9 years he wrote puppet plays and music for them. He accompanies his plays of zither, and glockenspiel.
Orff studied at the Munich Academy of Music until 1914
Dorothee Günther and Orff founded the Günther School for gymnastics, music, and dance in Munich. Orff was there as the head of a department from 1925 until the end of his life, and he worked with musical beginners. There he developed his theories of music
Orff published a manual titled Schulwerk, in which he shares his method of conducting. Orff's ideas were developed, together with Gunild Keetman, into a very innovative approach to music education for children, known as the Orff Schulwerk.
Orff is most known for Carmina Burana a "scenic cantata".
Orff-Centrum (Munich) was opened in July 1990, include research into, as well as the preservation and communication of Carl Orff´s creative work. The centre is a meeting place for academics and artists.
