  • APTA Established

    American Women’s Physical Therapeutic Association was established by Mary McMillan. This orginization was later changed to American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Physical Therapy in the 1940's

    Massage, exercise and traction became common treatments in the field of physiotherapy
    Two sections were created one is those who went to school, and the other for those who had private practice.
  • Therapy starts to grow

    British countries began the practice of therapy for people suffering from spine and joint pain. It was during this decade that physical therapy began to spread outside of hospitals. Schools, universities, skilled nursing facilities and rehabilitation centers also administered these treatments.
