    Adolf Hitler launched his great attact into the Soviet Union.With blitzkreig tactics, the German Wehrmacht under Generals Manstein and Guderian crushed the Soviet armise and swept through western Russia.Operation Barbarossa ended ,in the winter, with the German Army split into:Moscow, Leningrad, Caucasus. The German Army was not prepared for the winter war. Germany eventually lost on all three major battles.Hitler's agression also assured that the Soviets joined the war on the Allies's side.

    175.000 Caandian soldiers began their attack to drive Germany back over the Rhine River and out of Netherlands.Soldiers had to fight throug mud and flooded fields.Over 23.000 Allied soldiers were killed,including 5300 Canadians.Finally.the Germans withdrew on March 10th

    Casnada helped liberate the Netherlands,and are celebrated by people there.They were hailed as heroes because the fuel supplies and food were now able to come into the Netherlands.This is also because the royal family took refugee in Ottawa while the war was going on.
