    Operation Barbarossa
    This operation was driven primarily by an ideological desire to conquer the Western Soviet Union so that it could be repopulated by Germans. Germany occupied most important economic areas of the Soviet Union, mainly in Ukraine. The German offensive stalled in the Battle of Moscow and was subsequently pushed back by The Soviet Winter counter counteroffensive.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    (23 August 1942-2 February 1943)
    It was a major battle on the Eastern Front of WWII in which Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for the control of Stalingrad. It was a series of close quarters and air raids. It's also regarded as one of the single largest battles in history of warfare.

    Mussolini deposed from power and the earlier collapse of the fascist government in July. General Pietro Badoglio, the man who assumed power in Mussolini's stead by request of King victor Emanuel, began negotiating with General Eisenhower for weeks. This allowed the US troops to land in South Italy and began beating the Germans up the peninsula.

    This event is also known as the Battle of Paris. Nazi Germany ruled Paris since the signing of the second Compiegne Armistice on 22 June 1940. The Liberation of Paris began when the French Forces of the Interior staged an uprising against the German garrison upon the approach of the US third Army, led by General George Patton.

    On April 16th two soviet fronts attacked Berlin from the East and South. While a third overran German forces positioned North of Berlin.After encircling the city after successful battles of the Seelow Heights and Halbe. Defenses in Berlin's city center were mainly led by General Helmuth Weidling. These units consisted of several depleted and disorganized Wehmacht and Waffen-SS divisions along with poorly trained Hitler youth members. Within a few days Adolf Hitler committed suicide.

    After the failure of the Italian invasion of Greece, Germany demanded that Bulgaria join the Triapartite pact and permit German forces to pass through Bulgaria to attack Greece in order to help Italy. Bulgaria joined the pact in fear of a German invasion.

    The Bulgarian government did not participate in the invasion of Yugoslavia and the invasion of Greece. On August 17 1941 the Yugoslav Government surrendered, and on August 3rd 1941 the Greek Government surrendered. Bulgaria occupied most from Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Pomoravlje, Eastern Macedonia and the Western Thrace, which was already occupied by German forces.

    During the spring of 1943, the Bulgarian government, after protests led by the Bulgarian Orthodox Church amd M.P. Dimitar Peshev, succeeded in saving Bulgarian Jews from being sent to Nazi concentration camps. However the Nazi's still rounded up most of the jews in Greek Macedonia and Vardar Macedonia and sent them to concentration camps.

    Bulgaria did not join the German invasion of the Soviet Union that began on June 22nd of 1941 nor did they declare war on the Soviet Union. Despite lack of official declarations of war by both sides, the Bulgarian Navy was involved in a number of skirmishes with the Soviet Black Sea Fleet, which attacked Bulgarian shipping.

    The Bulgarian Government forced by Germany to declare token war on the UK and the US on December 13 1941 which resulted in the bombing of Sofia & other Bulgarian cities by Allied aircraft. German invasion of USSR caused a significant wave of protests, which led to activation of a mass guerrilla movement headed by the underground Bulgarian Communist Party.
    The reason why i chose this topic is because I didn't know they were associated with the axis powers and I was eager to learn more about it.
